What is the Motability Scheme?
The Motability Scheme is a charitable initiative that enables people receiving qualifying mobility benefits to exchange all or part of their allowance for a new mobility scooter, powered wheelchair, or vehicle adaptation. It’s a simple, affordable way to get the mobility equipment you need without a large upfront cost.
NBR Mobility is a proud accredited Motability dealer, serving customers across Norfolk and Suffolk. Our experienced team will guide you through the entire process, from checking your eligibility to helping you choose the right equipment and completing your application.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
Most mobility scooters and powerchairs are available with no advance payment – you simply exchange a portion of your weekly mobility allowance. Some premium models may require a one-off advance payment. We’ll explain all costs clearly before you commit.
How long is the Motability lease?
Scooter and powerchair leases typically run for 3 years. At the end of your lease, you can choose a new model, extend your current lease, or return the equipment.
What happens if my benefits stop?
If your benefits stop or are reduced below the qualifying rate, you’ll need to return the equipment. However, Motability offers a transition support package to help in these circumstances.
Can I have both a Motability car and a scooter?
Yes, in some cases. If you receive both the higher rate mobility and the standard rate care component of your benefit, you may be able to have both. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
Can someone else use my Motability equipment?
The equipment is leased for your personal use. However, a family member or carer can assist you with operating or transporting it. The insurance covers anyone helping you in this way.
What documents do I need to apply?
You’ll need your most recent benefit award letter showing your mobility component and the award end date. You’ll also need photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof of address. We’ll guide you through everything when you visit.
