Stay in the Home You Love
When climbing stairs becomes difficult or dangerous, a stairlift can be the solution that allows you to stay in your own home. Rather than facing the upheaval of moving house or being confined to one floor, a stairlift gives you safe, comfortable access to your entire home at the touch of a button.
At NBR Mobility, we’ve been installing stairlifts across Norfolk and Suffolk since 2001. We supply new and reconditioned stairlifts for straight and curved staircases, and we service and repair all makes and models. Every installation begins with a free, no-obligation home survey.
Types of Stairlifts
Straight Stairlifts
For staircases that go straight up without turns or landings. These are the most affordable option and can often be installed the same day. The rail is fitted to the stairs, not the wall, minimising disruption.
Installation time: Often same day
Curved Stairlifts
Custom-built for staircases with turns, curves, or intermediate landings. The rail is precision-manufactured to follow the exact shape of your staircase. Available for even the most complex configurations.
Installation time: Usually 2-4 weeks from survey
Outdoor Stairlifts
Weather-resistant stairlifts for external steps and staircases. Perfect for accessing your front door, garden, or garage. Built to withstand rain, frost, and sun with protective covers and marine-grade components.
Ideal for: External steps, garden access
New vs Reconditioned Stairlifts
We offer both new and reconditioned stairlifts to suit different budgets:
- New stairlifts: Latest models with full manufacturer warranty. Choice of colours and upholstery. All the newest features and safety systems.
- Reconditioned stairlifts: Previously used lifts that have been fully serviced, tested, and restored to excellent working condition. Significant savings compared to new. Only available for straight staircases (curved rails are made-to-measure).
Both options come with full installation, a warranty, and access to our servicing and repair team. We’ll help you decide which is right for your needs and budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a stairlift cost?
Straight stairlifts typically start from around £1,500 for reconditioned models and £2,000+ for new. Curved stairlifts are more expensive as they’re custom-made, typically starting from £4,000+. We provide free, no-obligation quotes after a home survey.
Will a stairlift damage my stairs or walls?
The rail is fixed to the treads of the stairs, not the wall. This leaves minimal marks if the stairlift is ever removed – just small holes that can easily be filled. Your staircase will not be damaged.
Can other people still use the stairs?
Yes. The seat, footrest, and armrests all fold up when not in use, leaving plenty of room for others to walk past. The rail is slim and runs close to the wall. Most people find it doesn’t obstruct the staircase at all.
What happens during a power cut?
All stairlifts run on rechargeable batteries that charge continuously from the mains. If there’s a power cut, you can still use the stairlift normally. Most batteries provide enough power for many trips up and down.
Are there grants available for stairlifts?
The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) may help with the cost of a stairlift if you meet the eligibility criteria. Contact your local council to apply. The process can take several months, but grants of up to £30,000 are available for essential adaptations.
Do you service and repair stairlifts?
Yes, we service and repair all makes and models of stairlifts, not just those we’ve installed. We recommend annual servicing to keep your stairlift running smoothly and safely. We also offer breakdown callout services.
